non-vw related

driving back from our thanksgiving vacation in our non-vw related vehicle (due to distance and my long legged kid pretzel’d for hours in the back) we watched in horror, a vehicle similar to this http://www.unicatamericas.com/ have a tire blow out, lose control and flip on its side over the at least 4’ gravel shoulder. luckily as we approached, the three passengers weren’t badly hurt and thank goodness that no one was pinned. it looked as if the windshield popped out at impact and the passengers: dad, mom and daughter about 8 were able to escape, unsure whether they were wearing seatbelts. and another good point was they had their teenage son following in an fj behind them. shock is an amazing thing. the dad was more concerned for his two pits that were recovered from the back compartment with only minor injuries than his wife who had a head injury and we assumed a broken leg/hip and daughter with an arm protrusion. we were able to talk the dad into driving the son’s fj to get the mom and daughter some medical attention in the nearest town, a very rural town, 25 miles away, leaving the son to stay with the dogs until a service vehicle got there. in this case, a cell phone wouldn’t have helped these people cause there was no service and it’s amazing to me how many people drove through there at a normal 65 miles an hour, not even glancing over or stopping to help. there was one guy with huge antlers on the back of his quad, in the back of his truck that stopped to make sure everyone was okay, the only nice guy. we left knowing that we had helped, glad that the injuries weren’t more than they were and questioning our desire to purchase a unicat.

mother lode vw club food drive

we went to angel's camp to participate in the annual mother lode vw club food drive this past weekend. it's always so iffy driving over the hill but always never a surprise to us that we didn't pack summer clothes! the weather couldn't have been more perfect for a cruise with a few different clubs over to murphy's to meet santa's little helpers and have a mexican feast with our friends jennifer and billy. we followed them home to check out the progress of billy's bus and watched billy's grandpa drill holes in a few tree stumps. then on to a little date time...wine tasting, great food and our favorite place to stay...

choppy chop

the term choppy chop is generally used for a salad found at adele's that consists of lettuce and veggies chopped into little bits. this weekend the term was used for the way the sand was left after many weekends of no wind. thousands of quads and rails have used up all the smooth areas and have left "choppy chop." you'll never hear me say this again...we need wind! the wind needs to rip through this place in a bad way if anyone wants to enjoy the mountain the way it should be enjoyed. if you're planning on heading out anytime soon, take a kidney belt, you'll need it!
